07 August 2013.An FB message “ Are you sister (brother’s name) pls. He’s critical condition at general hospital at San Francisco”Our friend in San Mateo confirmed the message My “Ahia” (Hokkien term for “ big brother”) suffered a massive stroke Ruptured vein in the brain.Had brain surgery and in a state of coma at SFGH.The Chinese Ghost month just started on 7 August 2013 and my brother’s condition looked grim.If Chinese superstition were to believed,my brother will die the same month my grandmother did. 08 August 2013.Talked to doctor in San Francisco who advised me of my brother’s medical condition.97% of such medical cases will die in the first 30 days.If he will live, he will be in a vegetative state.The doctor gave me two options:removal of life support to allow my brother to die peacefully or surgical procedures for tracheostomy tube and surgical feeding tube.Both options were not acceptable to me.I presented a third option to the doctor:use of Reliv in the next 25 days.He said it will not be allowed. I countered.If my brother will die in 30l days,why will I not be allowed to try Reliv? What if it will work! It worked for the mother of a doctor here in the Philippines.

25 August 2013.Our friend visited him again and took another photo.His eyes were opened but he had a blank stare.I was worried.What if the doctor was right that he will be in a vegetative state.I googled about vegetative state and started reading.There was nothing online to indicate that a person in a vegetative state will recover.Nothing!

28 August 2013.I allowed for feeding tube procedure through the stomach so Reliv can go directly to the stomach.
A surgeon requested authorization for tracheostomy procedure. I was told that my brother’s lungs have cleared.He could breathe but could not clear air passage on his own.
A nurse updated me on my brother’s condition. He could raise his right hand, move his right foot, open/close his right hand and give number 2 sign.Nurse confirmed that his response indicated brain activity.
I authorized tracheostomy procedure but with the condition that the cut will be as small as possible.
31 August 2013. Anesthesiologist requested authorization for use anesthesia for tracheostomy procedure and advised the risks of anesthesia.

Procedure was advised for 3 September 2013.I was uncomfortable.3 September is still within Ghosts Month.My grandmother told me that even if I do not believe in superstition.I should not go against it.
