Belle De Jour Power Planner (S.W.A.G. I got from Women on the Web event) has a Menstrual Tracker page with markings for 1st day tof period (O -encircle), X for normal flow, L for light flow, H for heavy flow and S for spotting. The reminders, notes on symptoms and self-care on the tracker page show that it was prepared for young women's use and medical purposes. For this reason, I googled dysmenorrhea which is a common concern of young womanhood.
I am surprised that Hormonal Contraception and IntraUterine Device (IUD) are mentioned in Wikipedia as "useful in reducing symptoms of dysmenorrhea".
"This is because dysmenorrhea is often associated with changes in hormonal levels in the body that occur with ovulation. The use of certain types of birth control pills can prevent the symptoms of dysmenorrhea, because the birth control pills stop ovulation from occurring." ~ Wikipedia
STOP OVULATION?! What if a woman wants to have children or eventually have children? Recently, infertility in young women has been reported in the news. A surgeon whose wife is an OB-GYN shared that women "take pills when they are in the peak of their fertile lives. When they decide that they want to have kids, their reproductive organs fail them." Women should know this and make the decision based on understanding.
Other concerns of hormonal contraceptives include increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, breast cancer, ovarian cancer and bleeding. Google SIDE EFFECTS OF HORMONAL CONTRACEPTIVES and it is in the Internet. With cancer and cardiovascular risk as health hazards, contraceptives is definitely not an option for menstrual pain.
What can women then do or take to deal with the debilitating pain associated with the monthly period?
SUPPLEMENT! I am such a fan of supplementation because of my results taking them for over 10 years.
Supplements such as Reliv Now LunaRich which contains soya protein, thiamine, Vitamin E, Vitamin B12 has been shown to reduce or eliminate pain due to anti-inflammatory properties.
Personally, my heavy menstruation has improved with Reliv LunaRich X! Fe Cayamanda, a woman who menstruates everyday for a whole year but could not undergo blood transfusion because of her faith, also tried Reliv. Her daily bleeding stopped! Lastly, Leni Padero, an IT entrepreneur, has been relieved of her monthly bouts of severe menstrual pain with the use of Reliv!
As women, we have to look into alternatives that extend to long term benefits. It is simply a prudent decision!
Happy Easter!
