I thought that turning 40 and gaining weight go together. It is part of growing old. As an individual, I would not be bothered with outward appearance. I have small wrists and am quite tall. I was ok physically with my weight hovering at 150 lbs.
My problem was that I did not think being overweight was a problem until pain behind my knees started to bother me. I asked a pain specialist to check what was causing the pain. He told me that I was overweight by 20 lbs! The knees could only handle so much weight so the extra pounds would make me a candidate for Arthritis. Diabetes too. :(
I had been sick before and I did not like it. When it comes to health, I really would pay attention.
Dr. Chua shared to me his strategy on eating to maintain his weight. I tweaked it to what I can afford in terms of food cost and preparation/cooking time. The 5 things I did eventually became my habits and helped me keep the weight off permanently.
- Drink Water.
- Eat Breakfast
- 5 Frequent Meals
- A slice of sugar-free wheat bread with peanut butter
- Fresh Fruits
- Protein Bar (I choose a low sodium and low sugar count)
- Muesli with
- Protein with Vegetables (protein could be beef, pork, salmon)
- Do Household Chores/Walk
- Have a Cheat Day!
I am sharing things which have been repeated online about weight loss. To find out if the strategy will work, one only has to actually do it. I did it and lost 10 lbs. It is not a lot. But the picture looks good with the subtle changes. I think I look better now at 50 than at 44 then in 2008. Feeling healthier too!
